The Karate Kid 2010 (Review)

The karate kid is a 2010 Chinese-American martial arts comedy-drama film. Harald Zwart directed a film that was succeed to manage the display and the beauty of China besides the wall of China. Its author, Christopher Murphey has a brilliant idea which decides to head to China instead of California. The decision to bring the entire of crew and actors to the China is worth thumbs up due to view of the outside the Hollywood clearly make atmosphere so more fresh, added with expertise of the cameramen presenting the natural beauty of china to the audiences.

Dre parker (Jaden Smith) is a 12-year-old boy who lives in Detroit. His mom, Sherry (Taraji P. Henson) who works for a car manufacturing company move to china so that Dre must follow his mother. Although at the first time he dislike with that country and want to get back to America but Dre meets a shy girl named Mei Ying (Wenwen Han) who plays violin that Dre wants so much to impress. Dre also has to find a way to defend himself from Cheng (Zhenwai Wang) and his members of Kung Fu fisted bullies who don’t like him. Until one day, Dre meets with Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who works as custodian officer cleanliness in the apartment where Dre and his mother lived. When Dre knows that Mr. Han has Kung Fu ability, Dre asks Mr. Han to teach him but with reservations.

Probably, supposed to this movie take the title of “The Kung Fu Kid” then the title will feel more relevant because of martial arts Kung Fu is the problem in this movie. Unfortunately the title will not be interesting because this movie is made as a remake of the film entitled same time which popular in 1980s. This movie has the excitement, humor, warmth and themes of friendship, maturity and overcoming adversity. I was relieved to find, left interact from the original. For May Ying character who although not so pretty but she gives the nuances of China in The Karate Kid. The actress brings out this aspect of the movie beautifully. I think some scenes in this movie that show when Dre had been hit by Cheng is little bit boring and Dre’s expression did not show how pain the moment.

Overall, this movie is excellent movie for all circles, as martial arts is important early to keep ourselves. However, to watch this movie the minors should be accompanied by older people in order to better educate children and this film should not judged negatively as violence among others but more rated the plus of his martial arts. The only one that I can say “watch The Karate kid” you will not be disappointed when you watch it.
